Description of Abyssinian Cat Breed
The Abyssinian is one of the oldest known breeds of cats. The Abyssinian cat has a muscular body, a beautiful arched neck with large ears and almond shaped eyes. The overall impression of the ideal Abyssinian would be a medium sized cat that was regal in appearance. The Abyssinian is a muscular cat, eager to engage in activity and attentive to its surroundings.
Abyssinians tend to be even tempered. The Abyssinian head will appear as a slightly rounded wedge. The nose is not overly square or sharply pointed. The Abyssinian ears will be large and alert while being moderately pointed, the ears will be broad and cupped at base and set as though they are listening. The hair on ears is very short and close lying, the ideal coat will be tipped with black or dark brown colored on a ruddy Abyssinian, chocolate-brown colored on a red Abyssinian, slate blue colored on the blue Abyssinian, and light cocoa brown colored on a fawn colored Abyssinian.
Pricing on Abyssinians varies from breeder to breeder but generally the pricing on an Abyssinian depends on type, applicable markings and bloodlines.
Typically breeders of all breeds of kittens release their kittens somewhere between twelve and sixteen weeks of age. The reasoning behind keeping a kitten until after twelve weeks is that kittens have had their basic inoculations. This gives them time to develop the physical and social stability needed to make a smooth transition into their new environment. It is never recommended that a breeder release a kitten before twelve weeks of age as the kittens need this time to develop properly. Releasing a kitten prior to twelve weeks of age is against the law in many states. It is also recommended that you keep all pedigreed cats and kittens indoors and that they be spayed or neutered. Cats and kittens of all ages also need suitable surfaces for scratching, such as scratching posts. Scratching is a natural behavior of the cat breed and declawing a cat is not recommended and is not accepted by the Cat Fanciers Association.
