Considering Cat Breeding
There are many things to take into consideration when thinking about breeding your cat. Caring for the mother during the pregnancy, after delivery care of the kittens and finding good homes for all of your new arrivals are not an easy task. This can take a considerable amount of time and be very costly.
Cat Breeding Basics
A female cat should be allowed to reach her adult size before breeding. If she is bred too early she will put her energy and nutrition into her kittens instead of finishing her growth. She should be 18-24 months old before she is ready for breeding. A male cat should be 18 months old. This allows time to determine if he is a healthy and suitable animal for breeding. Temperaments and genetic diseases are passed to the offspring.
A cat's breeding cycle is a complex and time consuming process. If you're not up to the challenge it's best to consult a professional cat breeder who understands the process and what is involved.
